Ambushing marketing (or simply ambushing) takes place when companies that are not official sponsors of an event undertake marketing efforts to convey the impression that they are. One may question whether it is ethical to ambush a competitor's sponsorship of an event, but a counterargument can easily be made that ambushing is simply a financially prudent way of offsetting a competitor's effort to obtain an advantage over your company or brand.
