The independent samples t-test tests the differences between means taken from two independent samples or groups. It is a test for hypotheses stating that the mean scores for some interval- or ratio-scaled variable groups based on some less-than interval classificatory variable are not the same. The t-test actually tests whether or not the differences between two means is zero.
