Cultural factors that influence intellectual property rights violations include: values that perceive imitation as a high form of flattery, a culture characterized by interpersonal distrust and feelings of not getting a fair deal, a culture characterized by an emphasis on acquisition of material wealth at the expense of caring for others, and beliefs that technology is in the common domain and that use of others' intellectual property is appropriate.
