Answer to Question 1

D

Answer to Question 2

In Western civilization the concept of childhood as a separate phase of life was unknown until the late 1600s. Earlier children were treated as small adults, with expectations similar to those of adults as far as possible. At puberty, young people were usually married, often to spouses to whom they had been promised in infancy.
