Answer to Question 1

Answer to Question 2

Feedback: In the 1990s several studies indicated that girls were disadvantaged in school. More recently, new studies say boys are disengaged by the feminized classroom and that popular culture teaches them that it is not cool to like or do well in school. There are numerous statistics that show boys are behind same-age girls in such areas as grade promotion, high-school graduation rates, reading and writing, SAT writing scores, and college degrees. However, data from the National Assessment of Education Programs shows that boys are not doing worse than in previous years; girls are doing better. A problem with the focus on this issue is that it ignores the fact that women earn less than men on average and hold far fewer positions of power in their careers. Also, there is a larger gap (two to five times as great) for social class and race than for gender.
