Jordan received an A on her sociology exam,
 
  and Zach received a D. When the Professors smiled at Jordan, she saw it as a positive recognition of a good student. When the Professor smiled at Zach, he saw it as a pity smile, with a You could do better message. These different interpretations of the same behavior are examples of:
