As the priests of the profession, only physicians knew what was right for people's health. They used Latin as their language which was not understood by most patients. Pharmacists became their conspirators in the monopoly to decipher prescriptions. Because the tactics used by physicians were not understood by the public they served, they were elevated to a higher level.
