Answer to Question 2

One of the new theories that emerged during the 1960s, when it became clear how deviant, criminal, and abnormal behaviors were being defined by people in positions of authority, was labeling theory. It challenged the idea that there are real and objective differences in behavior that is normal versus what is deviant. Most sociologists now argue that the process by which a behavior comes to be defined as deviant is critical to understanding what causes it. In other words, instead of focusing on the behavior of individuals, they argue we need to look at how the behavior came to be defined as deviant. Deviant behavior is caused by the process through which a behavior comes to be defined, or as they say, labeled, as deviant. These ideas developed into the labeling theory of deviance, the idea that many kinds of behaviors are deviant solely because they are labeled as such. An example of a behavior that is relabeled is homosexuality, which had been a crime in Texas until the Supreme Court ruled against the state keeping anachronistic sodomy laws on the books.

Every flu season is different, and even healthy people can get extremely sick from the flu, as well as spread it to others. The flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May. Every person over six months of age should get an annual flu vaccine. The vaccine cannot cause you to get influenza, but in some seasons, may not be completely able to prevent you from acquiring influenza due to changes in causative viruses. The viruses in the flu shot are killed—there is no way they can give you the flu. Minor side effects include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given. It is possible to develop a slight fever, and body aches, but these are simply signs that the body is responding to the vaccine and making itself ready to fight off the influenza virus should you come in contact with it.
