Answer to Question 1

a

Answer to Question 2

Sociologist and demographer Kingsley Davis (1965) argued that, in the modern world, the process of urbanization follows an S curve, whose shape is driven by the timing of industrialization. According to this model, before the emergence of widespread industry, the pace of urbanization is slow and gradual. With the onset of industrialization, cities grow rapidly as large segments of the population move from rural areas to urban areas, drawn by plentiful jobs in the city and technological advances that reduce demand for labor in rural areas. After cities reach their carrying capacity, demand for labor subsides, the cost of urban space rises, and cities may become overcrowded. As a result, migration into the city slows and the pace of urbanization levels off.
