Answer to Question 1

It is the extent of capability that new technology creates as opposed to the older technology. New technologies permit what had never been done before including the exploration of space, to travel further and faster than ever before, to do genetic engineering, and so on.

Answer to Question 2

One variable that is used to project the future is fertility. Fertility rate is the number of children the average woman bears. Another demographic variable, is mortality. Mortality uses the crude death rate to measure the number of deaths in a population. The third variable is migration. Migration, refers to the movement of people from one area to another. There are two types of migration. The first type refers to people who are moving from one region to another within the same country. The second type refers to people who are moving from one country to another.
