If the umbilical cord is seen in the vagina (prolapsed cord), you should:
 
  a. insert a gloved hand to gently push the fetus back up the birth canal.
  b. immediately clamp and cut the cord.
  c. place the mother in the kneechest position.
  d. encourage the mother to continue to push to speed up the delivery.
