Rationale 1: First determine the child's body surface area by using the equation, BSA = 77 lbs. x 48 in/3131 = 3696/3131 = 1.18435 = 1.09 m2. mL/dose = 1 mL/1 mg x 1.5 mg/m2 x 1.09 m2/dose. Multiply the numerators and then divide by the denominators. The client will receive 1.635 mL of medication.
