A child is prescribed diazepam (Valium) IVP q 2-4 hr for anxiety. The maximum amount that the child can receive in 8 hours is 0.6 mg/kg. The child weighs 55 lbs. How many mg of the medication can the child receive if provided every 4 hours?
 
  1. 0.75 mg
  2. 7.5 mg
  3. 15 mg
  4. 22.5 mg

A child weighing 44 lbs. is prescribed amoxicillin (Amoxil). The recommended amount is 25-50 mg/kg/day provided in q 8 hr or q 12 hr divided doses. What is a safe single dose that should be prescribed for this medication?
