Research by Guay, Marsh, & Boivin (2003) suggests that academic self-efficacy and achievement have reciprocal effects. That is, the strength of a student's academic self-concept can cause increases or decreases in achievement, and the level of a student's achievement can cause increases or decreases in academic self-concept.
