Answer: The five characteristics of recreation work are (1) Goals are clearly defined; (2) Scorekeeping is objective, self-administered, peer-audited, and compared to past performance; (3) Feedback is frequent; (4) Personal choice is present; rules are consistent, and don't change until the season is over; and (5) A competitive environment is present.
Iacocca's change leadership contains well-defined goals, compares achievements to past performance, and relies on a competitive environment. Also, his idea to cultivate ten proteges is self-administered scorekeeping. On the other hand, it is unclear how frequent feedback is for some of the metrics such as profitability, and the rules/targets keep changing as incremental improvements are made.
