Answer to Question 1

Answer: The five characteristics of recreation work are (1) Goals are clearly defined; (2) Scorekeeping is objective, self-administered, peer-audited, and compared to past performance; (3) Feedback is frequent; (4) Personal choice is present; rules are consistent, and don't change until the season is over; and (5) A competitive environment is present.
Iacocca's change leadership contains well-defined goals, compares achievements to past performance, and relies on a competitive environment. Also, his idea to cultivate ten proteges is self-administered scorekeeping. On the other hand, it is unclear how frequent feedback is for some of the metrics such as profitability, and the rules/targets keep changing as incremental improvements are made.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: A
Explanation: Students might be surprised to know that the academic study of management is filled with insights, based on extensive research, which often run counter to what seems to be common sense. That's why we decided to tackle head-on this common-sense perception by opening each chapter with a particular management myth and then debunking this myth by explaining how it is just a common-sense myth.
