Answer to Question 1

Answer: This theory argues that people are most influential when their network is rich in structural holes. Structural holes exist when you are connected to two people who are not connected to each other. A structural hole thus allows you to act as a bridge between two people, derive unique information from them, and also to control the flow of information.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Centrality: Access to information in a communication network. Flexibility: Amount of discretion available in a position. Visibility: Degree to which task performance is seen by influential people in the organization. Relevance: Assigned tasks are directly tied to the organization's goals and purpose. See Table 7. Also, students should provide appropriate examples of each determinant.
