Answer to Question 1

Four major changes in the world output and world trade picture occurred during the last few decades. First, the United States no longer dominates the world economy. Second, large U.S. multinationals no longer dominate international business. Third, the centrally planned communist economies that made up roughly half the world suddenly became accessible to Western businesses during the late 1980s. Finally, the global economy has become more knowledge-intensive and national barriers to labor markets are falling. This means that a growing number of firms consider the entire world their labor market, and companies now hire talent wherever it may be found.
