Answer to Question 1

A null hypothesis might be retained because it is, in fact, true. The treatment may not have made any difference, or there may not be a relationship between variables. Although it's false, the null hypothesis may be retained because of internal validity problems in the design or lack of power in the design.

The term prior knowledge in constructivist theory refers to the process of previous knowledge, interests, attitudes, goals, and so on that learners bring to a learning task influencing the information to which one attends and the interpretation one gives the task.
