Answer to Question 1

Distinctiveness is a dimension of the social identity theory that refers to the tendency of ingroup members to notice and emphasize identities that reflect how they are different from other groups. Groupshift refers to a change between a group's decision and an individual decision that a member within the group would make; the shift can be toward either conservatism or greater risk, but it generally is toward a more extreme version of the group's original position. One explanation for the phenomena of groupshift is that people adopt extreme positions because they want to demonstrate how different they are from the out-group. Thus, groupshift can be understood as an extreme attempt to promote the distinctiveness of the group in relation to out-groups.
