Answer to Question 1

C

Answer to Question 2

One view is that some persons of faith are troubled by the prospect of attempting to gain extreme competitive advantage over competitors. They will promote business success as long as business actions avoid retaliation toward competitors or harm to other businesses to achieve an advantage. Instead, these Christian business leaders will promote cooperation and reconciliation as a way to fulfill Christ's principle of the Golden Rule, while living out the principles of love and justice. Here competition is resisted. In a second view, Christians accept competition as a positive force as long as it does not result in pride or making business so important that it eclipses a relationship with God. These Christians view competition as a good that reduces prices for customers, creates jobs, and improves the standard of living for everyone in the marketplace. Here, competition is embraced. A third group of Christians views competitive advantage as a necessary part of doing business that is neither inherently bad nor good. This viewpoint places the Christian in tension with, and wary of, competition, while being willing to coexist with it. The fourth group of Christians views competitive advantage as a dimension of the marketplace that needs to be reformed. Here, the Christian will participate in competitive business actions, but in a way that changes the purpose of competition from a purely economic activity to an activity designed to promote the glory of God. Here, competition is a dimension of business for reformation.
