Answer to Question 1

Classical organizational design focuses on a formal hierarchy, clear work rules, specialization of labor, routine tasks, impersonal working environment, and the maximization of industrial efficiency. It tends to favor tall structures, small spans of control, and hierarchical authority. Neoclassical organizational design attempts to add a more human element, employee satisfaction. It uses elements of classical but sees people as self-motivating, desirous of responsibility, and seeking satisfaction at work. It leans toward flat organizations and decentralization, but still champions one best approach. Contingency organizational design assumes that the business environment of the organization determines the most appropriate design.

Answer to Question 2

FALSE
