Answer to Question 1

The three skills managers need to perform their functions and roles effectively are conceptual, human, and technical skills. Conceptual skills allow a manager to analyze and diagnose a situation and to distinguish between cause and effect. Human skills enable a manager to understand, work with, lead, and control the behaviors of other people and groups. Technical skills consist of job-specific knowledge and techniques that a manager needs to perform a specific organizational role. The specific technical skills a manager needs depend on the organization and his or her position in the organization.
