They find the correlation between scholastic aptitudes tests and high school academic data and performance in college. They develop a prediction equation and use this to predict how students will perform at the college.

Because so many of the variables of interest in educational research are attribute variables. For example, gender, race, social class, grade level, nationality and home background (one- or two-parents) are attribute variables.
