Answer to Question 1

This term refers to the fact that the scientific approach is a continuous process that includes creative and rational thinking, empirical observations, verification and constant peer evaluation. A single research study is rarely considered sufficient to confirm a finding. A study must always be replicated by other scientists, perhaps using different methods. All conclusions are viewed as tentative and subject to correction if new evidence is presented.

Answer to Question 2

The principle of parsimony states that simple explanations of relationships among phenomena are preferred over more complex ones. Scientists aim to reduce complex realities to simple explanations. According to the principle of parsimony, if two competing theories explain and predict a phenomenon equally well, the more parsimonius theory is to be preferred.

People who have myopia, or nearsightedness, are not able to see objects at a distance but only up close. It occurs when the cornea is either curved too steeply, the eye is too long, or both. This condition is progressive and worsens with time. More than 100 million people in the United States are nearsighted, but only 20% of those are born with the condition. Diet, eye exercise, drug therapy, and corrective lenses can all help manage nearsightedness.
