Answer to Question 1

A common source of recruits is within the firm itselfamong employees already working for the firm in the host country or those who, although currently employed in the home country, might be prepared for an international assignment in the host country. A company may dip into its pool of retired executives to fill short-term international assignments. An international business may also attempt to identify prospective managers who work for other firms. They may rely upon headhunters to locate prospective candidates. A firm may also locate its facilities near a pool of qualified employees. Some firms will hire new graduates they ultimately intend to send abroad and, in the short term, give the graduates domestic assignments. Particularly attractive are graduates with foreign-language skills, international travel experience, and a major in international business or a related field.
