The gift exchange is not viewed in high-context cultures as a bribe. Rather it is viewed as a token of appreciation for past loyalty or favors or as an expression of gratitude or loyalty. Consequently, the act of gift exchange works to develop the relationship between the businesses. Because high-context cultures emphasize strong and loyal relationships in business, gift exchange is more common.
