Answer to Question 1

The CAP theorem, which was first proposed by Eric Brewer in 2000, and then proven as a theorem by Seth Gilbert and Nancy Lynch in 2002, basically states that there are three properties of distributed database systems, and a DBMS system cannot guarantee that all three properties will be satisfied at the same time. At least one of the properties will be at least somewhat compromised. The three properties are:
Consistencyall the database partition replicas see the same data at any given point in time.
Availabilityunless a node has failed, it will respond to a request.
Partition tolerancethe distributed database is doing its job, and therefore if we can't get to the data on one partition, it will be available on another.
