Answer to Question 1

A Web service is a virtual component that offers its services via standard Web protocols. Web services are no longer merely a set of specifications and concepts but are actually used in the field. For example:
Amazon.com, which owes its existence and prosperity to its innovative use of the Web, offers Web services that allow other vendors to offer their merchandise through the company's site and allow the same vendors to offer Amazon's merchandise on their own Web sites. (Both sides, of course, get a cut from selling each others' wares.) Neither side needs to know anything about the technologies used by other side internally.
eBay, another successful Web business, offers Web services for searching, bidding, and creation of auctions.
FedEx and UPS offer Web services for tracking packages. Note that we are talking about the integration of this service into automated applications owned by outsiders, not about a visit to FedEx's Web site which offers the same service, manually, to individuals.

Answer to Question 2

TRUE
