Answer to Question 1

At the data link layer Frame Relay uses a simplified form of HDLC called core Link Access Procedure-Function (LAPF). LAPF provides only a minimum level of data link control functions. This means that Frame Relay has far less overhead than X.25. Another significant difference between Frame Relay and X.25 is that in a Frame Relay network, virtually no flow and error control are provided for between links or by end-to-end routing. Instead, Frame Relay leaves it up to higher-level services to provide these functions. However, because Frame Relay does not support flow control, traffic congestion can be a significant problem.

Answer to Question 2
