By gathering data on his patient's pain status, Nurse Q has been acting according to the doing phase of the PDSA cycle. In the studying phase, Nurse Q would study the findings for this patient and others to help determine what processes might be improved to enhance pain management for the unit. In the acting phase, Nurse Q would implement the process improvement changes for pain management as decided by the pain management group for the unit and the health care provider.
