Answer to Question 1

The Magnet Recognition Program has fourteen key forces or characteristics that are used when evaluating hospitals of potential Magnet status. When nurse leaders are perceived as knowledgeable, strong risk takers who follow an articulated philosophy of nursing, they are demonstrating the characteristic of quality nursing leadership. Quality of care is when the provision of care is seen as an organizational priority and nurse leaders work to enhance the workplace environment in order to provide quality care service delivery. Quality improvement occurs when staff nurses actively participate in quality improvement processes. Management style refers to nursing and hospital administrators sharing a participative management style incorporating feedback from staff at all levels.
