Nurse intensity has been defined by Adomat and Hewison (2004) as a measure of the amount and complexity of nursing care needed by a patient. Some of the factors that contribute to nurse intensity are: severity of patient illness, complexity of care, patient dependency regarding ADL (activities of daily living), and the amount of time needed for care.
