Answer to Question 1

Answer: 1
Rationale: Planning is most important, as it is the nursing management function affecting all other functions. It is the most basic, essential function charting the course for the future. While staffing is obviously important in order to provide nursing care for clients, planning for that care comes first. Directing is the function that allows the nurse manger to get work done. However, planning for the exact way that work will get done would come first. Coordinating involves organizing people and activities to get the responsibilities of the organization completed. Again, planning for the exact method by which this would be completed must come first.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: 1; 2; 4; 5

Rationale:
Image: Every organization has an image, so this is a commonality among differing organizations.
Vocabulary: Organizations have a specialized vocabulary that resembles one another's.
Managerial hierarchy: The hierarchy of every organization is different, and therefore not included in the aspects that can be similar among different organizations.
Policies and procedures: Organizations can resemble one another in that each will have its own specialized policies and procedures.
History: Each organization has its own history, so organizations resemble each other in this manner.
