The nurse knew the client was very anxious to know the lab results so the success of self-management of diabetes could be determined. The nurse tried to phone the client, but no one answered.

To save further time and effort, the RN left a telephone answering machine message with all the lab results for the client to listen to at the client's convenience. Would the agency supervisor have any issue with the nurse's efficiency?

  A. The supervisor would explain that it is not the nurse's job to get in touch with the client; it is the client's responsibility to get in touch with the clinic office.
  B. The nurse's actions showed good use of technology, and that is why clients are asked if they have answering machines or voice mail on their phones.
  C. Since the nurse made very efficient use of agency time, the nurse should be commended by the supervisor.
