A complex behavior chain is broken down into manageable components. Once the steps of the chain are
identified, the teacher must determine if any of the steps require time limits for completion and the extant of the time limits for each step. Next, the teacher must determine if forward, backward, or total-task presentation chaining will be used to teach the steps of the behavioral chain as identified by the task analysis. The teacher must also determine what kind of prompts she will use to teach the student to complete the task.
