ANS: Religion deals with major issues of human existence, magic toward specific, immediate problems. Religion uses prayer and sacrifices; magic practitioners believe they can achieve goals through own efforts. Religion tends to be a group activity, while magic is more individually oriented. Religion is usually practiced at specific times; magic is practiced in response to specific and immediate problems. Religion involves officially recognized functionaries, and magic is performed by wide variety of practitioners.

ANS: Both are systems of supernatural belief; are not susceptible to scientific verification; and are practiced as a way of coping with the anxieties, ambiguities, and frustrations of everyday life.
