The classroom library must be well designed, with partitions, ample space, comfortable furnishings, open-faced and traditional bookshelves, and book-related props and displays. Teachers will know quickly whether their classroom library meets the well-designed criteria; inviting classroom libraries are heavily used by the children.

Read storybooks interactively with children. Expose children to reading and writing experiences; point out print in the child's environment. Make sure that children have access to books and writing materials. Value your child's initial efforts at reading and writing.
