Answer to Question 1

It has created more differentiation within castes, more opportunities, and also negative effects, especially on the lower castes: some occupations identified heavily with caste are little-used today, such as potter and farmer.

Answer to Question 2

In general, it is based on ascribed status and an individual will not change their caste at any point. They will marry and reproduce within their caste.
