Answer to Question 1

Primarily, two-spirits were men dressed as women and engaged in women's work. They were often privileged and considered to have supernatural powers.

Answer to Question 2

We find this in many different types of societies, such as: those with specific types of religious philosophy that focus on transformation, those where social obligations are more important than the individual, those that have little distinction between gender roles, those where androgyny is considered sacred, and those where continuation of the patrilineage is critical.
