Answer to Question 1

The book mentions the U.S. and also Japan as areas where aging can be considered a burden to the families. Among the Ju'/hoansi, however, the elders are considered to be independent and autonomous and are not considered a burden. This is largely due to their type of subsistence and lifestyle as foragers.

Answer to Question 2

Bridewealth is the transfer of wealth from the groom's to the bride's family, while dowry is the presentation of goods by the bride's family to the family of the groom or to the couple.
