2. He claimed the exchange related to the incest taboothat obtaining wives from other families necessarily entails other families exchanging daughters in return.
3. Anthropologists have argued against this view by pointing out that in foraging societies, and many other cultural contexts, women are able to make their own decisions about spouses.
