Trauma and vascular dementia can cause dementia. Dementia is not a normal consequence of aging. Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and Parkinson's disease are non-Alzheimer's disease causes of dementia but are extremely rare and only responsible for a small percentage of dementias, respectively.
