Answer to Question 1

C
Mirroring and matching are techniques of nonverbal communication. Mirroring is doing exactly what the person is doing (as if the person were looking in a mirror), and matching is using the same pattern or intensity of tone the person is using. Both techniques must be practiced carefully so as not to make fun of the person. Guiding choices (response A) is a verbal communication technique. Using universal symbols (response D) is a nonverbal communication technique, but it does not involve mirroring or matching. Validation therapy uses many techniques but is primarily concerned with group support and problem solving.

Answer to Question 2

D
Salmonella is found in many foods, such as shellfish, custard, milk, eggs, and salad dressing. Typically, symptoms appear within 12 to 72 hours after exposure. Shigella (response A) is secondary to contaminated water or poor hygiene in food handlers with symptoms in 12 to 96 hours. Cholera (response B) appears in a few hours to 5 days after consumption of raw or undercooked food from contaminated water. Campylobacter (response C) takes 2 to 7 days to manifest and is secondary to undercooked poultry, unpasteurized milk, and contaminated water.
