Answer to Question 1

Mitigation measures aim to avoid the adverse impacts of climate change in the long term; these include steps like switching from coal to cleaner fossil fuels to produce electricity, replacing fossil fuels with other energy resources, reducing energy consumption, and removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere by boosting photosynthesis (for example, by planting more trees, which absorb carbon dioxide in the photosynthetic process of producing plant tissue and oxygen).
Adaptation
measures are designed to cope with and reduce the unavoidable impacts of climate change in the short and medium terms; these include building sea walls and dikes to prevent flooding related to rising sea levels, relocating people from flood-prone areas to higher ground, and developing crop varieties that are more suited to expected changes in precipitation and temperature.
