Answer to Question 1

Light is scattered when visible light is deflected from its path and sent out in all directions. Light is scattered in the atmosphere by very small objects, such as air molecules, fine dust particles, water molecules, and some pollutants. Clouds appear white because cloud droplets scatter all wavelengths of visible light.
Light is reflected when visible light bounces off a surface at the same angle at which it strikes the surface. An example of reflection is the appearance of sun pillars, which are caused by the reflection of sunlight off ice crystals.
The refraction of light is the bending of light as it is transmitted at an angle through substances of different densities. Examples of refraction include mirages, halos, sundogs, tangent arcs, and rainbows.
The passage of white light through a prism is an example of selective refraction, also called dispersion.
