Answer to Question 1

Answers will vary. Any use of water by the military, schools, prisons, hotels, or private
businesses is considered commercial use. Example: Restaurants use water for food
preparation and cleaning.

Answer to Question 2

Agriculture consumes the highest percentage of its water (74 in eastern states and
59 in western states). The consumption rate for power is very low because the water
is used for cooling and is readily available for reuse. Agriculture consumes more water
because most of the water is taken up by plants or lost through evaporation.
