Sharon Osmer tries to enhance Tyler's self-esteem by giving him tasks that she knows he can accomplish successfully (e.g., color-by-number worksheets), yet Tyler's self-esteem continues to decrease. Why?

Children's self-efficacy for academic tasks is most likely to increase when they accomplish challenging tasks, not easy ones. In fact, by giving Tyler easy assignments, Sharon may inadvertently be giving him the message that he isn't capable of anything more.
