Answer to Question 1

D

Answer to Question 2

If air moved in response to pressure gradients alone, it would travel perpendicular to isobars. The greater the pressure gradient, the stronger the winds. With the addition of the Coriolis force, winds in the Northern Hemisphere flow counter clockwise around low pressure areas and clockwise around high pressure areas, flowing parallel to isobars (geostrophic winds). The friction force adds a countering force to Coriolis, producing winds that spiral our of a high pressure area and into a low-pressure areas.
