Answer: Most migrants relocate a short distance and remain within the same country. Long distance migrants to other countries head for major centers of economic activity. Most people migrate for economic reasons. Most long distance migrants were male. Most long distance migrants were adult individuals rather than families with children. In today's environment one finds a higher number of female migrants and in many cases higher numbers of families, particularly associated with the Syrian refugees.
