Fine, uniform drops of water less than 0.5 millimeter in diameter are called drizzle, and precipitation containing the very smallest droplets able to reach the ground is called mist. Rain, drizzle, and mist mostly originate either in nimbostratus clouds or in towering cumulonimbus clouds.
